Applications Engineer (Manufacturing)

The Opportunity
We are looking for a trainee Applications Engineer to join our team focusing on our wood product portfolio. This role will be responsible for providing technical support and training to our customer base utilising both 3D CAD and CAM software. The role covers the south of England, along with Wales and there may occasionally be travel further afield.

As a Solid Solutions Applications Engineer you have a great opportunity to use your engineering and problem solving skills to support the Solid Solutions customer base of 15,000 companies. This could be delivering a training course in the classroom or virtually, working on the support desk solving customer problems, delivering a pre-sales demonstration or supporting consultancy projects. Softwares supported include SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD; CAM and associated manufacturing tools; structural, kinematic and fluid simulation; data management; electrical design; PCB design; technical publications and rendering – so there is plenty of scope to acquire new skills.
Location: Leamington Spa, Fareham, Chilton & Caldicot

  • £28,000-£35,000 Base Salary

Job Description
There are excellent opportunities to grow and progress within the Manufacturing team at Solid Solutions. The duties above would be the core of the role for the first 2 years after your initial training period; you would then be offered the opportunity to gradually transition (over another 2-year period) into one of the many consultancy or leadership roles within the team.

Typical Activities Include:
  • Frontline customer telephone support
  • Customer training, both virtual and face-to-face at our offices and customer sites across Southern England, the Midlands and Wales
  • Visiting customer locations to provide initial installation support across Southern England, the Midlands and Wales
  • Travel and staying away from home can be a key part of this role
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
An understanding of basic manufacturing processes in particular assembly or CNC machining. Experience with wood routers is highly advantageous
  • Formal CAD or CAM experience is desirable but not essential
  • A strong customer focus, with effective communication and presentation skills
  • Team working in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to develop customer relationships, to understand their needs and translate those needs into solutions that deliver real business benefits
  • Problem solving and initiative
  • A keen appetite to learn
