Role description:

IDU Group is looking for a Mechanical Engineer with a strong Robotics background, to join our growing team. The position requires a highly motivated individual who enjoys working in a dynamic team environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate a broad skill set based on extensive experience of driving innovative products from concept through to prototyping and design, all the way to manufacturing. We are looking for people who are intrinsically driven to solve hard problems with stunningly simple solutions, move fast, and are highly adaptive.


What you will do:



  • Brainstorm creative solutions to mechanical, manufacturing, and mechatronic problems

  • Design elements of smart integrated infrastructure in CAD that would support future products

  • Support the building of all proof of concepts, prototypes, and MVP’s

  • Define the hardware requirements such as sensors (meteorology, RTK, etc), and IoT/5G comms architecture required

  • Ensure the solution has a clear Requirements structure to drive the design, capturing rationale, and ensuring an appropriately robust verification and validation process is followed to assure the technical solution delivers the desired performance, functionality, quality and reliability

  • Reduce complexity by pushing for simple and elegant designs

  • Own the development of multiple subsystems, incl. team leadership if required

  • Strive for data-driven decisions that are well understood and communicated throughout the team

  • Understand current standards and regulations that may apply and ensure that our technology meets all relevant regulatory standards

  • Ensure robust design practices are followed in all design disciplines, ensuring optimum quality and reliability standards

  • Drive risk management practices throughout the team – using FMEA best practice to ensure all potential failures are captured and mitigated at the design stage

  • Drive a strong governance practice within the team; peer review, technical reviews, feeding into higher level project governance

  • Develop and maintain relationships with all IDU Partners (their family to), collaborative technical teams and service providers

  • Ability to travel internationally to support projects in the USA, Canada, and EU

Your Experience / Skills

You will bring many of the following skills and experience:



  • BSc/MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace, or equivalent with +7 years of professional experience

  • Experience in designing and analysing innovative and robust mechanical/mechatronic systems

  • Experience designing tightly integrated electronics enclosures and thermal solutions

  • Experience with CNC, sheet metal, and rapid prototyping fabrication

  • Practical knowledge of how to quickly prototype and test designs as well as experience with high-volume production manufacturing methods like injection moulding or die casting

  • Proficient in CAD software and EPDM (SolidWorks preferred)

  • FEA analysis capability would be desired but not essential

  • Experience designing tightly integrated electronics enclosures and thermal solutions

  • Ability to work independently, communicate effectively across functional teams and to keep technical projects with tight timelines on track

  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders

  • Show an active interest and awareness of knowledge in drones, avionics, and aerospace design

Qualification:

• BSc/MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace, or equivalent

Salary Range:
£50,000 - £60,000 per annum
