Lesson Agenda
Lesson 1: SOLIDWORKS Basics and the User Interface - The first lesson of this course introduces the user to the principal components of the SOLIDWORKS user interface and helps them to understand how different dimensioning methodologies convey different design intents.

Lesson 2: Patterning - Lesson 2 familiarises the user with pattern features within SOLIDWORKS and demonstrates how to automate the process of fully defining a sketch. The user will also learn how to create and use the references geometry type’s axes and planes.

Lesson 3: Editing: Repairs - Upon successful completion of Lesson 3, the user will understand how to diagnose problems in a part and repair them using the rollback feature. The user will also be introduced to the FeatureXpert tool to aid in repair.

Lesson 4: Editing: Design Changes - In Lesson 4, the user is encouraged to utilize all available tools to edit and make changes to a part; they are taught how different modelling techniques influence the ability to modify a part.

Lesson 5: Configurations - Lesson 5 focuses on configurations, teaching the user how to suppress and unsuppress features in different configurations, change dimension values, and understand the ramifications of making changes to parts that have configurations.

Lesson 6: Bottom-Up Assembly Modelling - Lesson 6 introduces the user to assembly modelling, bringing separate parts together into an assembly and adding mating relationships between them. The user will also be taught how to use configurations of parts within assemblies and how to add sub-assemblies.

Lesson 7: Using Assemblies - This lesson of this course shows the user how to create exploded views of their assemblies and perform mass property calculations. This information, along with other part properties, is then used to create a BOM that can be copied over to a drawing.

Lesson 8: Multibody Design Techniques - This lesson introduces the user to various design techniques that are useful for creating multi-body parts. The lesson explores new commands such as combine, intersect, indent, insert part and delete body.

Lesson 9: Advanced Mate Techniques - Lesson 9 introduces the user to the SOLIDWORKS assembly structure and how they reference other files. The user will learn how to use various mate types and how to utilize shortcuts for mating components.

Lesson 10: Assembly Editing - Lesson 10 teaches the user how to replace components in an assembly and how to diagnose and fix any mating errors when the assembly becomes over-defined. This lesson also introduces some of the mirroring and patterning features that are available within an assembly, such as creating opposite-hand versions of existing components.

Lesson 11: Using Configurations with Assemblies - Lesson 11 focuses on creating different variations of your assembly by switching components on and off via the use of configurations. The user will firstly learn how to create a configuration of an assembly and then how to automate the creation using a table approach. Secondly, the user will be taught how to link and build mathematical equations between component dimensions. Lastly, the lesson moves on to using sensors to define design requirements such as minimum acceptable clearance and using the mate controller to animate varying positions of an assembly with the use of distance and angle mates.

Lesson 12: Display States and Appearances - In Lesson 12, the user will learn how to create display states to create visual representations of the assembly, learn how to apply appearances and materials to components and modify the mapping of textures to create a more realistic visual. The user will also be taught methods of selecting multiple components using the selection manager.

Lesson 13: Large Assemblies - Lesson 13 teaches the user how to configure large assembly mode options, and take advantage of lightweight components to improve performance when working with large assemblies. The user will learn how to use advanced selection techniques, create graphical representations of sub-assemblies (SpeedPak), and simplify assembly components by replacing them with less detailed part versions. Finally, the user will be taught how to use the Assembly Visualisation tool to sort the assembly components in a list based on various properties such as mass.

Prerequisites: Experience navigating around the Windows Operating System, Experience using SOLIDWORKS and knowledge of sketching within SOLIDWORKS. 

Description: The SOLIDWORKS Refresher course is ideal for SOLIDWORKS users who may have used SOLIDWORKS in the past and potentially had some formal training but have not used the software for some time.
