Why SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional?
SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional can be used company-wide as a document management system for SOLIDWORKS CAD data as well as any other internal documentation.

Learn about workflows, project structuring, variable mapping and template creation which would then be applied to configure the behind the scenes set up of the PDM Professional system. This course is structured towards the administration side of the software rather than the front end use- although an overview of this is discussed.

PREREQUISITES
  • A sound knowledge of the Windows explorer environment
  • A basic knowledge of the SOLIDWORKS user interface is useful but not a requirement
  • This course is aimed at the person(s) who will be managing/ administrating the PDM system within the organisation.

The trainer was very knowledgeable. Unfortunately, she appeared to be unwell and due to being absent on the first day of the training, she was playing catchup for the rest of the course.

The PDM training came with a large set of printed notes, which contained demos and exercises. Our trainer read through this textbook over three days and got us to follow along with the demos. The course finished hours before the scheduled end each day, despite the trainer saying we didn't have time to do the exercises. The trainer was clearly experienced but all information was delivered alongside strong negative opinions about the software and users they have worked with before, and many long rambling anecdotes that weren't really that useful.
The trainer ended the course (early) while telling us to 'write what you want on the feedback, I don't care, I get paid either way'.
If you take up the PDM Pro Admin training, consider your course fee being entirely the purchase price of a good official textbook on the subject from SolidWorks.

Dylan was fantastic, very knowledgeable and really did try to get into the nitty gritty of the course.

Only thing was he could have been a little more prepared as the PC's weren't ready when we arrived and we had to wait roughly 1.5hrs before we could properly get started. However, this wasn't really Dylans fault as he thought the machines would be set up ready to go.

Although Caitlin told us that she has been a PDM support engineer for just over 12 months, the knowledge that was demostrated and explained, came through at a high standard. Even stayed on after one day to provide assistance on workflows regarding an objective set for our group business.

Catlin delivered the training with the right mix of demo, talking and exercises for us to complete. We had a chance at the end to review and ask questions, going over some of the previous chapters to double check we had understood the reasoning behind the lesson.

The training was very informative and gave the info needed to get going with our system. The only thing that I think would be better about the course is if you could see other people's screens when an issue came up. Some people were asking questions or having issues with things that sounded useful to know how to fix or I may have been having myself, but when the instructor took control of their computers to show how to fix or find the problem, we couldn't see what was happening. It would've been very useful I think, but a great course overall.
